Large anti-vaccine protests in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

Late yesterday afternoon (Saturday) a demonstration by people against Covid vaccination toured several streets of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, before ending in front of the headquarters of the Canary Islands Government.

The protest was quite well attended and during the tour, slogans in favour of freedom were chanted by many protesters not wearing masks or maintaining safety distances between each other.

After stopping in front of the main Government offices, which are mainly empty on a Saturday, the crowd dispersed quietly after being monitored by the police who didn’t need to intervene.

Meanwhile in Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura, almost 200 people gathered in the city to protest against vaccination and the government measures against Covid during this sixth wave of the pandemic.

Protestors were claiming that they are against "experimental” Covid-19 vaccines, displaying slogans against what they call "the certificate of control." They claim that the risks outweigh the benefit in vaccination and that "no one will be held responsible for the adverse effects."

So far 9.37 billion Covid vaccines have been given worldwide in just over a year, with more data collected than for any other vaccine in the history of medicine.

Fuerteventura is one of the islands with the highest percentage of its population who are against vaccination and are in denial regarding the  pandemic, which means that the island has not yet reached 80% vaccinated.
