Salvador Illa is stepping down as the Minister of Health for Spain

During 2020, since the coronavirus pandemic started, many names in Spanish politics that most British expats had never heard of before, have come to the forefront, such as Pedro Sanchez, Fernando Simón, Reyes Maroto, and Salvador Illa.

There is soon to be another one as Salvador Illa, the Minister of Health is stepping down in the next few weeks to lead the PSC's candidacy in the Catalan elections on the February 14th, and is tipped to be replaced by Carolina Darias.

Darias, who was born in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and went to University in La Laguna in Tenerife, was promoted to a national political position by Pedro Sánchez as the Minister of Territorial Policy and Civil Service, after serving under Angel Victor Torres as the Minister of Economy and Employment of the Canary Islands.

Darias participated together with Salvador Illa in the last meetings of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health Service and is involved in the vaccination planning, which are reasons why she is the favourite to replace him.
