The airports of the Canary Islands saw a level of activity this weekend which was close to that registered at the start of the August holidays prior to the pandemic, with a total of 3,800 flight operations (take offs and landings) from last Friday to today, Monday, which represents an 89% recovery compared to August 2019.
According to AENA these figures represent a return to 75% of the international flights and almost 100% of national ones to mainland Spain and other islands, and the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, couldn’t resist commenting on it on Facebook.
"Great to a return to high levels of activity at our airports," wrote Torres, who added that these statistics "bring the Canary Islands closer to the figures from before the pandemic."
However, although this is great to see, and is a definite step in the right direction, passenger figures are still low as planes are only coming in at between 30 and 40% occupancy, particularly the international ones, but the signs are that economically things are starting to improve.
