Covid update: 169 new cases, 5 deaths, 2 islands are now Covid free

The Canary Islands have registered 169 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, so the total accumulated number of cases rises to 46,120 since the pandemic began, with the addition of 5 deaths, four in Tenerife and one in Gran Canaria, meaning that 665 people have now lost their lives.

As it’s the weekend, there were only a small number of medical discharges so active cases rose to 4,057 of which 76 are admitted to ICU, 281 remain hospitalized, and 3,700 are being treated at home. Regarding the Accumulated Incidence (AI) in the Canary Islands, after 7 days it drops to 66.41 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and after 14 days it falls to 132.31 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Of the new cases, Tenerife had the most with 79 registered, Gran Canaria had 75, and Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma had 5 each. Neither El Hierro or La Gomera had any new cases in the last 24 hours, and in fact both islands are now Covid free with no active cases. So far a total of 951,968 PCR tests have been carried out on the islands, of which 3,268 were yesterday, and 50,215 have been positive which represents 5.27%.
