Covid update: 222 new cases today, 97 new outbreaks this week

The Ministry of Health has registered 222 new cases of Covid-19 in the Canary Islands today, and two deaths, one in Tenerife and the other in Lanzarote, bringing the total number of fatalities since the pandemic began to 654 people. The deceased are a 90-year-old woman in Gran Canaria and a 55-year-old man in Lanzarote, the latter already reported yesterday and that today has been incorporated into the statistical portal, once it has been validated.

Of the new cases 115 are in Tenerife, 88 in Gran Canaria, 10 in Fuerteventura, and 7 in Lanzarote. The total number of accumulated cases in the Canary Islands is now 45,498 with 4,114 active (52 less than yesterday), of which 78 are admitted to ICU (three more than yesterday) and 297 remain hospitalized, with 3,739 being treated at home.

They have also reported of 97 new outbreaks this week with 514 associated cases. Of these, 52 outbreaks are in Tenerife, 32 in Gran Canaria, 12 in Fuerteventura and one in Lanzarote. By area in which they have occurred, 38 are family outbreaks, 31 social, 23 work related, four educational and one sports.
