Covid update: new cases rebound to 243 with 110 in Tenerife and 94 in Gran Canaria

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has registered 243 new cases of coronavirus today in the archipelago, taking the total number of accumulated cases to 45,276 with 4,166 active (105 less than yesterday), of which 75 are admitted to ICU and 312 remain hospitalized, and 3,779 are in home isolation.

They have also reported of the death of two people in the Canary Islands, a 92-year-old woman in Tenerife and a 55-year-old man in Lanzarote. This latest death does not appear in the statistical portal and will be incorporated in the next few days once it is validated, taking the total number of deaths to 652 people.

By islands, Tenerife adds the most today with 110 cases with 2,164 still active; Gran Canaria adds 94 cases and has 1,633 active. Fuerteventura has 25 more cases than the previous day and 265 active; and Lanzarote adds 13 new cases with 86 active.

The Accumulated Incidence over 7 days in the Canary Islands now stands at 68.84 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and over 14 days at 135.80 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the R rate, the rate of contagion, has dropped below 1 to 0.99. To date, a total of 938,738 PCR tests have been carried out in the Islands, of which 3,424 correspond to the last 24 hours.
