Covid update: 173 new cases but actives drop again as 455 discharged

The Canary Islands has registered a slight rebound in new cases today by adding 173 new infections, but have seen active cases drop by 283 to 6,200 because of 455 medical discharges in the last 24 hours. There has also been one more death registered in Lanzarote of a 74-year-old man who was hospitalized, and had previous pathologies. This death brings the total number of fatalities in the islands due to this global pandemic to 568.

By islands, Gran Canaria has the most new cases with 81 and exceeds the barrier of 16,000 infections, but also had the most medical discharges with 267. It is followed by Tenerife, which repeats as the second island with the highest number of new cases, adding 66 in the last hours and brings its total to 16,447. In addition, the island has 54 epidemiological discharges in the last hours and its active cases are at 2,152.

Lanzarote adds 12 new cases that bring its total to 4,308 of which 375 are still active. Added to this are the 40 discharges today which confirms the downward trend in recent days. Fuerteventura registers 10 new cases that bring its total to 1,549 cases, and has 135 actives.

La Palma adds another four cases this Friday and raises its total to 383. It also adds a discharge in the last hours and active cases stand at 25. La Gomera remains unchanged and El Hierro adds 86 discharges, of the immigrants that arrived in the last couple of weeks to leave 7 active.

The Incidence rates of the Islands as a whole are the lowest they’ve been for some time with 48.95 over seven days, and 115.82 over 14 days, mainly due to drops in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and El Hierro.
