Covid update: New cases still on the increase with 312 today and 7 deaths

The Ministry of Health has informed that the Canary Islands have added 312 new cases of coronavirus today, with seven deaths in the last 24 hours, five in Tenerife, one in Gran Canaria and another in Lanzarote, bringing the total to 481 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of today the archipelago has 8,178 active cases of Covid-19, of which 62 are admitted to Intensive Care, 309 are in hospital wards and 7,807 are under treatment at their homes. The Accumulated Incidence (AI) at seven days stands at 95.76 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the AI ​​at 14 days at 178.09, and the rate is 1,11.

Regarding new cases, Gran Canaria continues to have the most with 135 new infections in the last, 24 hours, Lanzarote scores the second largest increase of the day with 114 new cases, and Tenerife continues as the third island with 42 new cases today, confirming the downward trend thanks to the measures implemented in recent weeks.

Fuerteventura has added 20 new cases this Tuesday, El Hierro adds one, and La Palma and La Gomera didn’t register any new infections.

The 40-49 age group continues to be the bracket with the most infections since the pandemic started, and in fact people aged 20-60 years of age account for 65% of all infections, whereas the over 80’s account for only 4%. The difference is that almost 1 in 5 people aged over 80 who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Canary Islands, have died.
