Covid update: 199 new cases, 93 in Gran Canaria, 57 in Tenerife, 40 in Lanzarote

The Ministry of Health has released the latest data that is under review by the Governing Council of the Canary Islands who are assessing the alert Levels in all islands. Today’s data reports of 199 new cases, of which 93 (47%) are in Gran Canaria, 57 are in Tenerife, 40 are in Lanzarote, 7 in Fuerteventura and 2 in La Palma.

Active cases have dropped by 133 to 6,720 in all of the islands, as 331 people have been medically discharged, and one has died in Lanzarote. Notably the incidence rates in Lanzaraote, Gran Canaria and El Hierro have all reduced significantly as they start to contain the virus and bend the curve of this 3rd wave, which will more than likely support politicians calls to keep restrictions as they are in all of the islands during this Carnival bank holiday weekend.

Tenerife has seen a big drop in active cases over the last week, with 2,118 actives still on the island, but La Laguna has now decreased to 425, and there are only 288 active cases in the south of the island, which is a drop of over 60% in a month.
