Covid update: Sunday has 159 new cases and three Covid deaths

The Canary Islands registered 159 new cases of Covid-19 yesterday and only 35 medical discharges, so the total number of accumulated cases in the islands rose to 41,913 with 4,892 active, of which 77 are admitted to ICU and 296 remain hospitalized. There were also 3 Covid related deaths recorded, one in Tenerife and the other two in Gran Canaria, taking the total number of deaths to 611.

The Accumulated Incidence (AI) at 7 days in the Canary Islands now stands at 52.24 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the AI at 14 days is 110.24 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. These numbers have not reduced much so far in March and are a concern for the health authorities with Easter looming. They would expect that the IA7 would be below 50 by now, and this will more than likely lead to even stricter restrictions being imposed.
