The Ministry of Health has informed of 267 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands today, with 123 (46%) in Gran Canaria, 74 in Lanzarote, and 62 in Tenerife. This means that Gran Canaria now has the most active cases (3,396) and passes Tenerife to become the most infected island in this third wave of the pandemic.
They also reported four Covid related deaths, meaning that 524 people have lost their lives since the pandemic began, of which two were in Lanzarote, one in Gran Canaria, and one in Tenerife.
Fuerteventura and El Hierro are controlling the virus even though they continue to have new cases, but at a low level, La Palma only has three active cases on the island, and La Gomera is the only island that is Covid free. This does have some irony as tomorrow it will be exactly a year since the first case of coronavirus was detected in Spain, which was a German doctor on holiday in La Gomera.
Even though the islands have an alert Level of restrictions, every single municipality has a ‘traffic light’ indicating the severity of the spread in that area. Here is a guide showing all of them:
