Covid update: 177 new cases today, 104 in Tenerife, 54 in Gran Canaria

The Canary Islands have registered 177 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of accumulated cases to 44,388 since the pandemic began, in addition the death toll reaches 640 after another Covid related death today in Lanzarote of a 77-year-old woman linked to a social outbreak, according to the latest data from the Regional Ministry of Health.

Of the new cases Tenerife has the most with 104 followed by Gran Canaria with almost half at 54, then Fuerteventura with 10, and Lanzarote with 9. These stats endorse the reasons given yesterday by Blas Trujillo for the level changes as Tenerife has the biggest increase in data, Gran Canaria a smaller but significant one, and Fuerteventura has enough to affect its incidence rates and hospitals.

The Ministry of Health have also given data for schools today, which show that there are 53 teachers (out of more than 32,000) and 401 students (out of more than 330,000) with Covid-19 in the Canary Islands.
