The Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands, in conjunction with Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, have opened the registration period today for residents of the islands to sign up for the draw for one of the 50,000 vouchers for 200 euros towards the cost of their Canary Islands holiday.
Up to 50,000 Canaries residents will be able to obtain one of the two types of vouchers, those for accommodation and those for travel agencies, which will materialize in prepaid cards endowed with 200 euros that can be enjoyed until the end of the year.
The Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castilla, has invited citizens to join this 10 million euro promotion that aims to encourage domestic tourism in the islands. "We believe that Canarian tourism should and can play an important role this summer because it is a market that is recovering faster than the others and because, as a result of the pandemic, the general motivation is to favour close, safe and reliable vacations,” she said.
Residents who want to participate in the draw will be able to register from midday today, July 1st, until Monday July 12th, at www.somosafortunados.com, where there is a form to fill in where you must choose the type of voucher you want and include your personal data, as well as decide if you want the virtual card, which is generated automatically and which can be available in a few days, or the physical card, which takes more time to produce and post, so will take a few weeks to receive.
On July 15th, the list of winners will be published, after a draw before a public notary, and on receipt of the virtual or physical voucher, it may begin to be used both in the accommodation establishments and travel agents in the Canary Islands that have signed up.
CONDITIONS OF USE:
The tourist voucher for use to book holiday accommodation will have a charge of 200 euros to which the beneficiary will have to contribute another 200 euros more.
Regarding the travel agency vouchers, these will also have a charge of 200 euros, to which the Canarian resident will not have to contribute any economic amount and will have to be used to hire a vacation package that entails a minimum stay of 4 nights in summer season between July and September, or a minimum stay of 2 nights between October and December.
For any doubts that may arise during the process, Turismo de Canarias has enabled the Tourist Bonus Service, with the telephone number 828 008 002, which can be called from 8am to 10pm as well as the email bonoturistico@somosafortunados.com
In just ten days, 777 companies from the eight islands have already joined the campaign, of which 634 are accommodation and 143 travel agencies. The registration period for these businesses remains open until December 1st, so the numbers of registrants increase daily.
"I am convinced that this measure will help to reactivate the sector, it will allow many employees to keep their jobs and enable the many Canary Islands residents who were not going to enjoy a vacation, do so," says Castilla.
