VIDEO: Locals up in arms after police shoot a dog in broad daylight

Dog lovers in Tenerife are angry, disgusted, and up in arms after images and videos were released this morning of undercover National Police officers shooting a dog for, what looked like, no apparent reason, in broad daylight in San Isidro in the south of Tenerife.

The incident took place at around 11:30am today (Wednesday) on a piece of land on the corner of Calle Libertad and Calle Chipude, not far from the IES Magallanes school, where hundreds of residents were able to view and record the violent act from their homes.

In the images it is clear to see that two of the dogs, of breeds considered potentially dangerous that weren’t wearing muzzles which are mandatory in public, rushed at the officials, one of whom reacted by shooting at them when he saw how his companion stumbled and fell to the ground, being left at the mercy of the animals.

Allegedly the incident occurred whilst the National Police were carrying out an undercover operation in the town, and for some reason the dogs turned on the agents. However, at this stage no details of the operation have been released.

In information obtained through unofficial channels, it appears that the dog that was shot was injured, although the extent of the injuries or whether it was fatal is unknown.
