Two pickpockets arrested for robbing tourists in south of Tenerife

The Guardia Civil have arrested two men aged 37 and 54 years old accused of pickpocketing tourists in El Medano in the south of Tenerife. Unfortunately, this is a serious problem during the winter season in the Canary Islands, as the pickpockets head to the archipelago as there are more tourists here than in other resorts that operate mainly in the summer.

The arrests took place under the name of Operation Danube, which is a campaign set up by the police to clamp down on this type of robbery in tourist areas of the islands.

Officers acted quickly after receiving several complaints from holidaymakers who reported they had been robbed in the El Médano area and were able to pin two thefts and an attempted third, which the target spotted them doing and confronted them, on the two detainees.

Once arrested, it came to light that one of the pickpockets already had a judicial arrest warrant for similar acts against him, but both of them, together with the police reports, have been brought before the courts.
