The National Police, in collaboration with the Department of Social Security and work inspectors, have arrested two business owners in Fuerteventura who have been employing foreign staff without the correct paperwork or residency permits, resulting in sanctions amounting to €57,000.
Their aim was to investigate and eliminate potential labour law violations and social security fraud, by conducting inspections in different business sectors, in this case, agriculture and farming.
Seven inspections were carried out between October 7th and 13th, and a total of 24 people were identified, including business owners and workers, as part of the investigation.
Following the completion of the investigation, two business owners or managers were arrested, and face charges for violating workers' rights by repeatedly employing foreigners without the required work permits in Spain, and breaching labour and immigration regulations.
In addition to the arrests, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security proposed sanctions against the companies associated with the detainees of €57,000 due to the severity of the violations.
The authorities say they will continue these inspections in different sectors, including the hospitality and service industries, to emphasize the importance of compliance with labour laws to protect workers' rights and prevent exploitation.
