The super-luxury cruise ship 'Evrima', the first and only one built in Spain, and owned by the Ritz-Carlton chain, bears the Canarian stamp. After starting its construction in 2018 at the Hijos de J. Barreras shipyard in Vigo, which went bankrupt 18 months ago and couldn’t finish constructing it, the ship was sent to Santander, where Astander, a subsidiary of the Canarian group Astican, was commissioned to finish it.
In addition to construction work inside it, Astander was in charge of painting the hull of the 190-meter-long ship, employing 1,500 people to do the job and being paid 20 million euros to complete it.
The 'Evrima' left the Cantabrian shipyard this week, owned by the Canarian group, heading for Gibraltar to carry out the 'bunkering', which is the preparation process to be fuelled, and from there it will go to Marseille, where the final interior touches will be carried out.
The first trip aboard this super-luxury ship is scheduled for October 29th from the port of Barcelona, with a price of almost 9,000 euros for an eight-day cruise. 'Evrima' will start operating four years later than initially planned due to the difficulties and delays that it has suffered during its construction, including the bankruptcy of the shipyard that started it.
The ship has a capacity for 298 passengers in 149 suites, designed in great detail. Its passengers will be able to enjoy spa services and a wide gastronomic offer, including a restaurant designed by three Michelin star chef, Sven Elverfeld.
The 'Evrima' has turned out to be a very expensive project. Initially, it was born with a budget of 240 million euros, but they have gone 35% over that budget costing 330 million euros due to the problems encountered.
The Ritz-Carlton chain, belonging to Marriott International, will build two other luxury cruise ships like the 'Evrima', which are the 'Ilma' and the 'Luminara'. Their contracts have already been signed with a shipyard in France.
