The PP demand that Torres drops IGIC from 7% to 5% to help with the cost of living

The president of the Partido Popular (PP) political party, the main opposition to the PSOE in the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, has demanded that the island’s president, Ángel Víctor Torres, introduce a tax relief plan with a reduction in the IGIC (Canary Islands VAT) from 7% to 5% to help businesses and residents with the cost of living crisis.

This was revealed during his speech yesterday (Saturday) at the opening ceremony of the party conference of the PP in Lanzarote, where he said that “it is the right time to do so”.

“It is time for Torres to understand that the money does not have to be in the coffers of the administrations, but in the pockets of the citizens. The regional government is 64% richer today than last year, while citizens are 10% ‘poorer’".

Domínguez emphasised that many people in the Canary Islands are demanding a change, and highlighted that the PP is the alternative because it will present "a project to solve the lives of Canarians" at the next elections.

"This beginning of the political course will mark the immediate future of the Canary Islands because the decisions we adopt will influence thousands of people for a long time to come. We are going to win, of course, we are going to win, and I am not just referring to the elections, but to the confidence of citizens", he said.

"We are going to ask the people of the Canary Islands for an opportunity to carry out our proposals and to develop our projects. This is the time for a change, this is time for the PP and we aspire to take control of the islands in a positive way," he stressed.
