The General Directorate of Heritage of the Canary Islands Government has opened a sanctioning file against the company promoting the Cuna del Alma tourism project, which has begun to be built in El Puertito de Adeje, as confirmed to Europa Press by the Ministry of Culture.
The sanction proposal is due to the destruction of an archaeological site and can reach a maximum amount of 600,000 euros. The promoter now has a period of 15 days to appeal against the allegations, and in the event that the file ends with the sanction, they must pay for the replacement of the damage caused in the area.
The General Directorate of Heritage has verified that the developer started the works without a favourable report on archaeological heritage from the Tenerife Cabildo and without the advice of an archaeologist on site and, apparently, with full knowledge of the existence of archaeological elements and ethnographic.
Construction work was paralyzed in a precautionary way in May by the Cabildo as a result of complaints by the Tegüico Patrimonial Association, and once the suspension of a part of the land was lifted, protestors camping in the area have tried to prevent the works.
