The Canaries has the most unfair dismissal lawsuits and property evictions in all of Spain

During the second quarter of 2022, the Canary Islands was the region with the highest rate of lawsuits for unfair dismissal in the whole of Spain with 103 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the latest data in the report on the effects of the crisis on judicial bodies, prepared by the Statistics Service of the General Council of the Judiciary (GCPJ), released this morning (Wednesday).

The archipelago exceeded Madrid (75.6 lawsuits per 100,000 inhabitants) by more than 27 points, and Catalonia, with an index of 71.7. Between 1st April and 30th June 2022, a total of 2,258 dismissal lawsuits were filed on the islands, 15% more than in the same period of 2021, when 1,964 lawsuits for unfair dismissal were registered.

Also, according to the official report of the CGPJ, the islands were the region that registered the highest rate of evictions from properties for non-payment of rent, with 25.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, ahead of the Balearic Islands (23.5) and Catalonia (23.2).

The report reveals that the judicial bodies of the archipelago carried out a total of 720 evictions during the second quarter (2.4% less than in the same period of 2021), of which 139 were for the execution of the Mortgage Law, 554 for the Urban Leasing Law (1.12% less than in the second quarter of 2021), and 27 for other unspecified causes.

Regarding the rate for application of the Mortgage Law (that is, for non-payment of mortgage installments), the Canary Islands has the third highest rate in the country with 6.4 cases for every 100,000 inhabitants, only surpassed by Murcia (14.9) and Valencia (10).
