Tenerife taxi driver is arrested for raping a 22-year-old woman in his cab

The National Police have arrested a 36-year-old taxi driver who is accused of raping a 22-year-old German woman, who is a resident of Adeje in the south of Tenerife after she called a cab to go home to her parent's house after being on a night out with friends.

According to her statement to the police, the taxi driver began to say inappropriate things to her as soon as she got into the car, and at one point, stopped the car and got into the back with her and locked the doors, and got some drinks out.

After insisting that she didn’t want any and that she just wanted to go home, the driver got back into the front and started driving. However, he then locked the car doors and took a diversion, and parked in a secluded place before climbing into the back and starting to touch her and threaten her.

The girl said that she tried to push him off but he was too strong, also that she screamed but there was no one around, and tried to get away without success, and ended up giving in out of fear of his violent attitude towards her, who forced her sexually with penetration.

When she got home to her parent’s house after the ordeal, she immediately contacted the National Police, and procedures were started to care for the woman, who was visibly affected, and an investigation was carried out to confirm the facts.

Thanks to the recordings of the local cameras, data provided by the taxi company, and the victim's statement, which matched the data that was being discovered, the Police were able to identify the man and proceeded to arrest him for a crime of sexual assault.

The taxi driver, who is from Arico, already has several police records for abuse but not of a sexual nature, and was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority to await trial.
