TUESDAY WEATHER: Light calima across the Canaries as temperatures near 40°C

The Canary Islands are set for another day of intense heat today, Tuesday, with temperatures expected to climb to 39°C, and potentially exceed 40°C in isolated areas, with light calima at higher levels, while many parts of the islands will experience tropical nights, with temperatures remaining above 25°C overnight.

Light to moderate northerly winds will blow along the coasts, becoming strong at times on eastern and western coastlines. Inland and in higher areas, winds will be light to moderate from the east.

At sea, north to north-easterly winds of Force 3 to 4 are expected, occasionally strengthening to Force 5 offshore and along some coasts. Slight to moderate seas are forecast around the western and eastern islands, with rougher conditions developing around the central islands.

Island-by-island forecasts for Tuesday 7th July 2026:

Tenerife
Mainly clear skies, with some cloud along the north coast early and late in the day. Light calima will remain present at higher levels.

Temperatures will rise slightly to moderately, with a more noticeable increase in some mid-altitude areas. Most of the island away from the north coast will see temperatures of 30–32°C or higher. Western, southern and eastern mid-altitude areas, as well as Santa Cruz de Tenerife, are forecast to reach 36°C. Night-time temperatures around 25°C are expected in the warmest areas.

Along the coast, winds will be light to moderate from the north, becoming stronger at times in the north-east and south-west. Higher areas will see light south-westerly winds.
General temperature range: Low of 23°C and a high of 34°C.

Gran Canaria
Mostly clear with some cloud affecting the north coast during the early morning and late evening. Light calima is expected.

Temperatures will continue to rise across much of the island, with highs around 30–32°C in most areas away from the north coast. Eastern, southern and western mid-altitude areas, along with the Tejeda basin, are expected to reach 39°C, with isolated spots potentially topping 40°C. Northern high ground above 600–700 metres could also exceed 34°C.

In the hottest areas, overnight temperatures will remain exceptionally warm, ranging from 26°C to 28°C, and could be even higher locally.

Moderate northerly winds will affect coastal areas, with stronger gusts on eastern and western coasts. Inland and higher areas will see light to moderate easterly winds.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and a high of 32°C.

Lanzarote
Mostly clear skies, apart from some cloud along the north coast early in the morning. Light calima is expected at higher levels.

Temperatures will change little on the west coast but rise slightly to moderately elsewhere, with a more noticeable increase inland. Highs of 30–32°C are expected across most of the island, while southern and eastern inland areas could reach 37°C. Overnight temperatures may remain above 25°C in the hottest locations.
General temperature range: Low of 22°C and a high of 33°C.

Fuerteventura
Sunny for most of the day, with some cloud affecting the north and west coasts early and late. Light calima will persist at higher altitudes.

Temperatures will remain similar on the west coast but rise elsewhere, particularly inland. Most areas are expected to reach 30–32°C, while inland southern and eastern parts could see 37°C, with isolated areas possibly exceeding 39°C. Night-time temperatures may stay above 25°C.

North winds will be light to moderate, becoming stronger at times in southern Jandía.
General temperature range: Low of 25°C and a high of 37°C.
