AEMET has warned that strong trade winds will continue to affect the Canary Islands this Tuesday, with occasional very powerful gusts expected in exposed south-east and north-west areas of the mountainous islands, including Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Forecasters say the weather pattern will remain largely unchanged, with cloudy skies dominating northern parts of the islands while sunnier conditions are expected elsewhere across the archipelago.

Temperatures are forecast to stay stable throughout the day, although some inland areas of Gran Canaria could once again reach highs of around 30°C.

At sea, rough conditions are also expected, with north and north-easterly winds reaching force 5 to 6, temporarily increasing to force 7 in south-eastern and western coastal waters. Strong swells and rough seas are forecast in exposed Atlantic areas, while northern and eastern coasts could see waves of between one and two metres.

Island-by-island forecast for Tuesday 9th June 2026:

Lanzarote
Cloudy skies are expected in northern and western areas during the morning, with brighter spells developing later in the afternoon. Southern parts of the island should remain mostly sunny and clear before cloud cover increases again later in the evening.

Moderate to strong trade winds will continue throughout the day, with the possibility of very strong gusts affecting southern areas during the middle of the day.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 26°C.

Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura will enjoy largely clear and sunny skies after some early cloud cover clears during the morning. However, cloud is expected to return later in the evening.

Strong breezes are expected across much of the island, with occasional powerful gusts possible in western areas and along the southern slopes of Jandía during the afternoon.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and high of 25°C.

Gran Canaria
Northern areas of Gran Canaria below 900 metres will remain mostly cloudy for much of the day, although some sunny intervals are expected during the middle hours.

There is a slight chance of light drizzle in inland northern areas later in the evening, while the rest of the island should stay mostly sunny and dry.

Temperatures will remain stable, although inland eastern, southern and western midland areas could reach 30°C during the afternoon.

Trade winds will strengthen throughout the day, particularly along south-east and north-west slopes where very strong gusts are likely. Strong winds are also possible in higher mountain areas during the early morning hours.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 26°C.

Tenerife
Cloudy conditions are expected across northern Tenerife below 1,000 metres, with clearer intervals developing during the middle of the day.

By the afternoon and evening, cloud cover is forecast to spread higher inland, reaching between 1,200 and 1,300 metres. Light drizzle may also develop in north-eastern midland areas later in the day.

Elsewhere, particularly in southern tourist areas, conditions should remain mostly sunny and dry.

Moderate trade winds will strengthen in exposed areas, especially along the south-east coast and the far north-west of the island, where occasional very strong gusts are expected.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 27°C.
