A female scuba diver is fighting for her life in Lanzarote after suffering a cardiac arrest during a dive on Friday afternoon. The incident happened at Playa Los Fariones on the south east coast of the island, where emergency services launched a rescue operation to save the woman, believed to be around 50 years old.
According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), an urgent alert was received at approximately 3.00pm reporting that a diver had been pulled from the water in cardiac arrest and required immediate medical assistance.
Responders from GES-Emerlan were first to arrive at the scene and immediately began CPR while using a semi-automatic defibrillator in an attempt to keep the woman alive.
SUC Medical teams later took over advanced resuscitation efforts after arriving with a medicalised ambulance and two additional support units.
After intensive treatment at the scene, paramedics successfully managed to restore the woman’s pulse before stabilising her for emergency transfer to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa, where she remains in a critical condition receiving specialist care.
Officers from the Guardia Civil and the Local Police in Tías also attended the incident, assisting emergency crews and preparing the official reports into what happened. Further details have not been released as yet.
