The Canary Islands are preparing for a week of rain very similar to yesterdays, particularly in the western islands, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and to a lesser extent in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. There is also a possibility of more snow on Mount Teide and on the summits of La Palma, according to the latest forecasts from AEMET.
The approach of an isolated depression at high levels, known as a DANA, which will be centred to the northeast of the Canary Islands, will increase the probability of rains in the next few days. Rain is expected to be moderate, and be mainly on the northern slopes of the islands with greater relief, with snow around 2,000 to 2,100 metres of altitude.
Yesterday 11 litres per square metre of rain were recorded in the Anaga forestall area, 10 litres per square metre in the La Orotava valley, and 9.6 in the south between San Miguel de Abona and Arico.
The expected rains will be more intense on Thursday and Friday, but over the weekend they are expected to subside which will also bring a slight increase in temperatures.
The weather forecast for today shows that in the north of the islands it will be cloudy and rainy, but there may be stronger showers inland in the northeast and in the south, especially during the first half of the day, with winds up to 27km/h and sunset tonight at 6.41pm.
