The Canary Islands Government authorized the construction of a new complex of 88 apartments in the coastal area of the Amarilla Golf in San Miguel de Abona yesterday, on a plot of 10,000m2 that will be built in four blocks with 77 one-bedroom apartments and 11 two-bedroom apartments.
The three-star complex, which must receive the approval of the Cabildo, will include a reception area, walking and relaxation spaces, a park, a children's club and open spaces and gardens, as well as a 292m2 lake-shaped swimming pool for adults, a smaller children’s pool, a solarium and a Jacuzzi. It will also have a gym, sauna, beauty and massage rooms, and a space for business meetings.
The mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo González, said "This is good news for the municipality," underlining the council’s commitment to supporting projects that are aimed at attracting tourism and not to create more residential complexes.
"We must have more attractions and beds for tourists, but without overcrowding," he said. González highlighted the investments launched by the San Miguel de Abona City Council to improve public spaces in coastal areas, among which he cited the actions to clean up debris and spills on the San Salvador beach.
The Canary Islands Tourist Renovation and Modernization Law provides that prior authorizations are only granted for new tourist accommodation places in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura when the projects meet building and service quality standards, and when territorial planning does not expressly prohibit it, in the case of apartment complexes.
