More than 20% of all tourists in July came to the Canaries from the UK

New data released this morning (Monday) by Turespaña shows that more than 20% of the passengers coming from international airports to the Canary Islands in July were from the United Kingdom, making it still the most important market for tourists for the archipelago.

During the first seven months of the year, the whole of Spain received 53.49 million passengers from international airports, which is 21.6% more than in the same period of 2022, and almost 60% came on low-cost airlines.

Almost 10.3 million international visitors came to Spain in July, which is 11.5% more than in the same month of 2022, and only 1.62% lower than the best historical data ever in July 2019.

The acting Minister of Tourism for Spain, Héctor Gómez, said: "Spain is a leading destination and this is demonstrated by today's data, which certifies the busy summer that the sector is experiencing at all levels, with record spending and tourist arrivals, and with a horizon of model change towards quality and sustainability that is already unstoppable”.

Of the 53.49 million international passengers who arrived in Spain up to July, 31.8 million (59.5%) did so on low-cost airlines while another 21.6 million (40.5%) did so on traditional airlines.

In July, 6.14 million international passengers arrived at Spanish airports with low-cost companies, mainly from the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy, while those from traditional companies originated from Germany, the UK, and the United States.

The United Kingdom generated 24.1% of all passengers arriving in Spain in July, registering an interannual increase of 8.2%. This growth affected all regions, but especially the Balearic and Canary Islands, which had 28.7% and 20.1% of all passengers.
