A man is being investigated in Gran Canaria after allegedly accessing private photos and videos belonging to his ex-partner without her permission and saving them on his own mobile phone.

The Guardia Civil said the case is being handled in Agüimes and relates to a suspected breach of privacy laws. The investigation began earlier this month after the woman reported the incident to police, prompting officers to launch a specialist inquiry into the alleged misuse of personal data.

According to investigators, the incident happened at a property in Ingenio, where the woman regularly kept one of her devices. The suspect, who had previously been in a relationship with her, is believed to have taken advantage of this to access the device without her consent.

Despite the phone being protected by a password, he allegedly managed to get around the security and copy intimate images and videos onto his own device.

The situation only came to light when someone close to the victim reportedly found the material on the suspect’s phone. The files are said to include private content of both the woman and her current partner.

This discovery has raised further concerns, as there are indications the suspect may also have stored similar material involving other women. Police are now working to establish whether more people may have been affected.

Officers moved quickly after receiving the complaint, carrying out technical checks to trace how the device was accessed and to identify the suspect, who was later located in Agüimes. Their swift action helped secure key evidence before any files could be deleted or potentially shared.

Police have warned that in cases like this, one of the biggest risks is the possible spread of intimate material online or via messaging apps, which can cause even greater harm.

The case has now been passed to a court in Telde, where legal proceedings will continue.
