Man hides dead mother's body for six months in his home in Tenerife

The Local Police have reported the discovery of the body of a 90-year-old woman who had passed away six months ago in her home in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where her 65-year-old son, who has been arrested, allegedly kept it hidden until Thursday when neighbours alerted authorities due to the foul odour emanating from the property.

Sources from the National Police, which has taken over the investigation of the incident, have reported that the body was embalmed and showed no apparent signs of violence.

Neighbours contacted the Local Police at 9:40pm on Thursday, stating that, besides the strong smell, they hadn't seen the elderly woman who lived with her son, for some time. When neighbours asked him about his mother, the son would say that she was bedridden and couldn’t go out or asleep.

When officers entered the house, they noticed that the interior was in poor condition with rubbish everywhere and the strong smell that neighbours had complained about.

At this point, the police officers insisted on seeing the man's mother and asked him to wake her up. He then led them to the bedroom, lifted some blankets, and the woman's body was in the bed covered with bags filled with lime.

After the discovery, the son finally admitted that his mother had passed away about six months ago. After health and forensic services arrived, the suspect was taken to a health centre and then to the psychiatry unit of La Candelaria Hospital.

This disturbing incident has shocked the community and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and the actions of her son. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events and any potential charges against him.
