La Pinta beach in Costa Adeje has been closed to swimmers once again after water quality tests detected excessive levels of bacteria in the sea.

Adeje Town Hall have confirmed that bathing has been temporarily banned at the popular beach next to Puerto Colón while new water samples are analysed to determine whether the water is safe for the public.

According to the council, daily monitoring detected elevated microbiological levels linked to enterococci bacteria, which can indicate the presence of harmful microorganisms in the water.

It is the latest in a series of temporary closures affecting La Pinta beach, which has faced similar problems in the past due to water contamination concerns.

Health officials warn that exposure to contaminated water can potentially cause skin, eye and respiratory infections, as well as stomach-related illnesses in some cases.

Red flags and warning signs have been placed at the beach advising residents and tourists not to enter the sea until further notice. Local authorities say the closure will remain in place until follow-up tests confirm the water quality has returned to safe levels.

Beach goers are being advised to check official updates before travelling to the area, as previous closures at the beach have lasted several days.
