The National Geographic Institute (IGN) have registered a series of eleven earthquakes in Arico, in the southeast of Tenerife, on Monday in less than two-hours.
The seismic series occurred between 9:30pm and 11:20pm on Monday night, at depths of between 3 and 6 kilometres and with magnitudes of less than 1.0 on the Richter scale.
According to the IGN, none of these earthquakes was felt by the population, which points out that although no grouped events have been recorded in that area of Tenerife in recent years, this type of activity "is to be expected" on an active volcanic island.
“This seismic series”, explains the IGN, "does not mean any change in the state of the island's volcanic activity, due to the low number of events and how small they are in size."
In addition to the earthquakes in Tenerife, in the last few hours tremors have been recorded again on La Palma after almost a week of no activity, all less than 1.4 magnitude.
