Intersindical Canaria has sent separate letters addressed to the President of the Tenerife Cabildo and the political groups of the CC, PP, and PSOE, demanding that the funds allocated for the construction of the race track be used instead for the preservation of the rural environment of the island and to base a seaplane here for the fight against forest fires.
In a press release, Intersindical Canaria reports that it registered both requests yesterday (Thursday) at the Cabildo headquarters, and justifies its demands due to " the damages that are going to occur on the enclave of the so-called Motor Circuit, whose budget is around 60 million euros”.
They say that this is reinforced by the current situation of the fire and that the Cabildo has “abandoned the real needs of Tenerife and its inhabitants, which have to do at present with the recovery after the effects of the progressive destruction of its natural spaces, caused by the devastating fire that has ruined our territory."
Intersindical Canaria asks that this money be allocated to the protection of the rural environment with the impulse of the agricultural sectors instead, implemented in such a way as "a natural barrier" to prevent forest fires and that it also used to improve the " limited availability of aerial extinguishing means available on the island, either alone or with the collaboration of the Canary Islands Government.”
The objective, they claim, is "to prevent future disastrous events that are highly harmful to a unique animal and plant biodiversity in the world in an environment officially declared a 'Climate Emergency' and especially sensitive to the effects of climate change".
