Members of business association FAST in the South of Tenerife have warned about the "innumerable complaints" received from guests in hotels in the south of the island due to the queues and waiting times in the terminal of the Reina Sofia airport, whether it is to “pass through entry controls, get their luggage, collect a rent-a-car, or get a taxi", according to its president, José Fernando Cabrera.
In an interview yesterday afternoon, he said: “What is the point of all the promotional effort made by Turismo de Tenerife, the investments made by accommodation, hospitality, and commercial enterprises, and the hard work of the employees of the sector, if the disastrous operation of the airport leaves such a sour taste in our visitor's mouths, and let’s not even say anything if they come with children or are older!”
Cabrera, the former president of Ashotel, said that in his opinion, "the inconvenience and ineffectiveness of the South airport has now become the main complaint of tourists who visit Tenerife after arriving tired after five and six-hour flights."
“We all know the controls have to be in place, we all know that bookings are increasing, and AENA know how many people are coming, so it can’t be that difficult to staff the airport accordingly to make it quicker and smoother for visitors to the island.”
In addition, he demands a greater number of taxis, to avoid long waits and older people having to drag their suitcases around outside the terminal.
