Heavy rain and thunderstorms still forecast in the Canary Islands today

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are forecast to have locally heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms today (Wednesday) as unstable weather continues across the Canary Islands.

AEMET forecasts occasional showers during the morning and afternoon, with the greatest potential for heavier rain concentrated across parts of the two mountainous islands.

Temperatures are also expected to fall slightly.

Importantly, there are currently no coastal weather warnings in force, meaning today's outlook is a forecast for potentially intense localised conditions rather than a continuation of yesterday's warnings.

TENERIFE: Thunderstorms possible

Cloud will be more persistent across the north of Tenerife, spreading into inland areas and eastern slopes during the morning.

Occasional showers are expected, particularly during the morning and afternoon, and AEMET does not rule out some becoming locally heavy or accompanied by isolated thunderstorms.

The coastal forecast specifically indicates the possibility of showers and thunderstorms around southeast Tenerife during the afternoon.

Temperatures will fall slightly, with maximums reaching around 27°C.

GRAN CANARIA: Heavier showers possible

Gran Canaria will also experience cloudy intervals, particularly across northern, inland and eastern areas.

Occasional showers are likely during the morning and afternoon and, as in Tenerife, some could become locally heavy or develop into isolated thunderstorms.

AEMET's coastal forecast specifically indicates showers around the north and northeast coast during the morning.

Moderate northeasterly winds are expected, becoming occasionally strong during the afternoon on southeast and northwest slopes.

LANZAROTE:

Lanzarote will see cloudy intervals during Wednesday, although the likelihood and intensity of rainfall will be lower than in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

AEMET forecasts the possibility of light, scattered rain around the middle of the day, followed by increasing clear spells later in the afternoon.

FUERTEVENTURA:

Fuerteventura will see similar conditions, with cloudy intervals and the possibility of light and scattered rainfall during the central part of the day.

Conditions should brighten later in the afternoon.

Across Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, northeasterly winds will remain a feature of the day.
