The Consorcio de Abastecimiento de Aguas Fuerteventura (CAAF) has completed an ambitious island-wide project to renew and expand its water supply infrastructure, installing almost 40 kilometres of new pipelines across several municipalities.

This represents the largest investment in the network since the CAAF was established, with the aim of improving supply, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

The works have spanned virtually the entire island. In the capital alone, Puerto del Rosario, over 20 kilometres of new pipelines have been laid in areas including Tetir, La Asomada, Tesjuate, El Time, Ampuyenta, Los Estancos, Casillas del Ángel, Majada Marcial, and several streets in the capital itself.

In La Oliva, more than 4.5 kilometres of pipelines were installed in Corralejo, El Cotillo, Vallebrón, Villaverde, and the Fimapaire ravine.

Antigua has benefitted from over 6 kilometres of new installations in Triquivijate, Agua de Bueyes, and Casillas Morales, while 2 kilometres were added in Betancuria, 2.84 kilometres in Tuineje, and 1.58 kilometres in Pájara.

Altogether, the works add up to almost 40 kilometres of new and renewed piping, a milestone without precedent in the history of the CAAF.

CAAF’s CEO, Adargoma Hernández, highlighted the importance of the project: “This is the largest renewal and expansion of networks ever carried out by the Consorcio. It not only increases the capacity to distribute drinking water, but also reduces losses, strengthens service reliability, and ensures we can meet the needs of a growing island. It is a decisive step towards a more modern, reliable, and efficient system for all residents.”

Lola García, President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, also stressed the significance of the work: “Water is a vital resource for Fuerteventura’s economic and social development. With these works, we are meeting a long-standing demand from citizens, ensuring that families, farmers, and businesses have access to a safer, higher-quality service. This reflects the Cabildo’s commitment to building a fairer present and a sustainable future for all municipalities.”

Commitment to the future

The CAAF emphasises that these works are part of a broader strategy to modernise the island’s water infrastructure, designed to optimise resources, reduce breakdowns, and improve the quality of supply.

With this historic intervention, the Consorcio strengthens its commitment to the people of Fuerteventura and to the future of water management across the island.
