Four arrested for stealing a £14,000 watch from a tourist in Las Americas

The National Police have arrested four men in Playa de Las Americas in the south of Tenerife, aged between 24 and 36 years old, accused of intimidating a tourist in Veronicas and stealing a watch worth £14,000.

The incident took place over the weekend in the main nightlife area of Playa de Las Americas, and allegedly the four men surrounded the holidaymakers, and one of them, using sleight of hand, stole his watch from his wrist without him realising, and walked off.

When the man realised his watch had gone, he went after them and confronted them, but the four of them threatened to physically assault him and left.

Following this, the victim went to the Las Americas police station and reported the crime, and after attending to the tourist and obtaining a physical description of the alleged perpetrators, officers located them in the Las Verónicas area leaning on a car.

When the police approached, they were able to identify the four of them and spotted the stolen watch inside the parked vehicle, which led to their arrest and transfer to the police station.

After giving statements at the police station, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority at the courts of Arona where they are awaiting trial. Three of the detainees already have police records.
