A five-year-old child is in a critical condition after being rescued from the swimming pool of a hotel in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, yesterday afternoon (Friday), showing clear signs of drowning.

According to reports by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), the incident happened at around 6:10pm, when emergency services received reports that a child had been pulled from the water and needed urgent assistance.

Two ambulances, alongside officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police, were immediately dispatched to the hotel, where paramedics treated the child and were able to stabilise him before transporting him by medical ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife for further treatment.

Emergency personnel confirmed that the boy remained in a serious condition due to the time he had spent underwater.

No further information about his identity or current medical condition has been released.

Officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police assisted emergency crews at the hotel and have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Parents urged to supervise children near water

This latest accident comes amid ongoing concerns over water safety in the Canary Islands, where several serious swimming pool incidents involving children have been reported in recent years.

Emergency services continue to remind parents and guardians that constant supervision is essential whenever children are in or near swimming pools, even for short periods.
