The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has updated and consolidated health figures after the New Year extended weekend. Yesterday they informed of 256 new cases, of which over half were in Gran Canaria which registered 136, Tenerife added 83 and Lanzarote is experiencing a rebound with another 23.

Lanzarote has had a surge of infections with 117 new cases in the last week and 159 now active, which has pushed the IA7 up to 76.83, in fact 4 of the Islands now have a 7 day incidence rate over 50.

Tenerife is still the epicentre of the pandemic in the Canary Islands and has the majority of cases, but this is the 3rd day in a row that new infections are below 100, with 83 detected yesterday, giving hope that the extra restrictions are working in a positive way as they will be under review later this week.
