An estate agency is reported for dumping documents with personal data on public roads

The Local Police in Las Palmas have reported an estate agency based in Gran Canaria to the Spanish Agency for Data Protection in the Canary Islands, after they dumped hundreds of documents containing the personal data of their clients on public roads, for which they can be fined up to 300,000 euros.

Bank accounts, compra/ventas, escrituras, purchase contracts, and copies of Ids and passports, are some of the documents that the Local Police found in the middle of the pavement in the Lomo Blanco neighborhood of Las Palmas, dumped along with office supplies in folders full of documentation.

Agents from the Security Corps' Mediation and Coexistence Unit (UMEC) have begun an investigation following some traces that point to different headquarters of the same real estate company in the municipalities of Las Palmas, Telde, and San Bartolome de Tirajana, all in Gran Canaria.

Following this, officers located the person at the estate agency responsible for processing property transactions and this type of paperwork. He accompanied them to the site where the papers were found, and stated that he was not aware that his company had dumped such important documentation.

Even though the Local Police granted the company a period to remove all the documentation from public roads, the company ignored it and it was necessary to request the Municipal Cleaning Service to remove it and dispose of it correctly under the data protection act.

The estate agency now has proceedings against them for disposing of the paperwork in the first place, and ignoring orders to remove it from the streets.
