This week, the Ministry of Health has reported a total of 138 outbreaks in the Canary Islands, which have 877 associated cases, of which 25 people required hospital admission and two have died.
Of these outbreaks, 54 occurred in Gran Canaria, 39 in Lanzarote, 34 in Tenerife, 9 in Fuerteventura and 2 in El Hierro.
By source in which they occurred, 59 of the outbreaks are of family origin, 49 from social gatherings, 17 at work, 9 in education centres, two in hospitals, 1 in a nursing home, 1 in a gym, and another in a nursery school.
In the workplace, two outbreaks are in fishing boats which were detected in Santa Cruz de Tenerife: one with 8 confirmed cases, two of which are hospitalized, and another with 7 people involved.
Of the hospital outbreaks, one took place at the Doctor Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote with 10 affected people (of which 5 are patients, 3 workers and 2 relatives), and the other at the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Gran Canaria with 8 cases of which 7 are workers and 1 family member, but fortunately no affected patients.
Also this week it is confirmed that most of the family outbreaks occurred among non-cohabitants. Most outbreaks have fewer than 10 cases, although there are 17 outbreaks with more than 10 people infected.
There are 3 outbreaks with the most cases: one with 28 and two of 20 cases, respectively, which occurred in Gran Canaria in social and family settings. In addition, there is one of 19 cases in Tenerife and several with 15 cases of which 2 are registered in Lanzarote, 2 in Gran Canaria and 1 in Tenerife. For its part, in Fuerteventura there is an outbreak from a restaurant with 11 cases.
The outbreak in the sports environment corresponds to a gymnasium in Telde in Gran Canaria, in which 7 positive cases have been confirmed. On the other hand, in the workplace, another outbreak of six people has been reported in a soccer team in Gran Canaria.
In addition to these, there are 81 existing outbreaks that are still being tracked. At this point, it is clarified that some of them have expanded with secondary cases, such as that of a restaurant in Lanzarote that now has 44 cases and 6 hospitalizations linked to it. Another previous case that has increased its cases is linked to a birthday party in Tuineje, which now has 26 infected people.
