Prosecution wants 15 years for three people who used a cannabis club as a front for drug dealing

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Prosecutor's Office is requesting a total of five years in prison and a fine of 20,500 euros for each of the three individuals who established a club for the consumption and sale of cannabis in the south of Tenerife.

Specifically, they are facing two years and a 5,500 euro fine for unlawful association and three years and a 15,000 euro fine for drug trafficking. The prosecution argues that the trio conspired to acquire the substance not only for personal consumption but also with the intention of distributing it to third parties in the illicit market.

To give the appearance of legality to their activities, the trio formed an association for the study of dioecious plants. One of the defendants assumed the role of president, another as vice president, and the third as secretary.

However, according to the public prosecution, they actually constructed a fictitious social structure that allowed them to carry out the planned illicit activities under the guise of a seemingly legal entity.

The prosecution believes that a genuine social group was never formed, adhering to the association's statutes or engaging in any activity’s characteristic of the established association, aside from what appears to be the illegal sale of cannabis.

At one point, the accused rented premises in Los Cristianos on behalf of the association, without notifying the National Register of Businesses of the change of address. They also failed to inform the Arona Council about the commencement of any form of activity or renovation work at the premises.

Local police officers arrived stopped there due to ongoing renovations without the necessary permit, and upon inspection, they discovered containers containing what appeared to be cannabis.

Shortly thereafter, one of the accused individuals and their lawyer arrived at the location and voluntarily surrendered approximately three kilograms of hashish of varying purity, valued at 7,500 euros, along with 1,123.20 euros in cash. The trial is scheduled to take place next week at the Provincial Court.
