A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody without bail after allegedly attacking a woman with a machete and shooting her nephew with a bow and arrow in Arucas, Gran Canaria. Both victims survived, but suffered serious injuries in what police are treating as two attempted murders.

The incident happened at around 4:00pm on Thursday, 2nd April, in the Santidad area of Arucas, a town just south of Las Palmas. The suspect had been living in the same property as the 60-year-old woman and her 30-year-old nephew.

According to investigators, a heated argument between the three escalated into violence. The man is accused of hitting the woman twice on the head with a machete, leaving her seriously injured before she was taken to hospital, where she is now recovering.

He then allegedly used a bow to fire two arrows at the nephew. One caught his face, while another hit his chest. The victim required emergency surgery and is now recovering from his injuries.

The suspect fled but was later arrested. He faces two counts of attempted murder and one offence relating to the possession of prohibited weapons. Reports also indicate he has a history of mental health issues, which may form part of the ongoing investigation.

The case has raised concern locally due to the severity of the attack and the unusual weapons involved. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues.
