Woman in serious condition after being repeatedly stabbed by partner in Lanzarote

A 56-year-old woman is in serious condition at the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote after being repeatedly stabbed by her partner. The alleged attacker, a 58-year-old man, was arrested by the National Police following a police chase in Arrecife.

The attack took place yesterday, Friday, at the victim's home near El Reducto beach. The woman suffered at least three stab wounds, including a severe injury to her neck.

After losing a significant amount of blood, she was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where she underwent emergency surgery.

The suspect was apprehended at around 3:00pm following a pursuit involving several patrol cars from both the National and the Local Police. The investigation is being led by the Women's Care Unit of the Arrecife police station.

The authorities have confirmed that once the police procedures are completed, the suspect will be brought before the court. Neither the victim nor the suspect, both Spanish nationals, had any previous records of domestic violence complaints.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of gender-based violence in the Canary Islands, where an average of 24 emergencies related to such assaults are reported daily.
