An elderly woman was rescued in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, on Sunday morning after being found trapped, disoriented, and severely dehydrated in her home, where she is believed to have been immobile for at least four days.

Emergency crews were called to the property at around 9:45 am after neighbours and relatives raised the alarm, saying they had not heard from her for a week.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered the front door was locked and searched for another way in. They eventually managed to access the home through the balcony, where they began searching for the missing woman.

She was located in her bedroom, unable to move, disoriented, and showing clear signs of dehydration. Emergency crews from Boluntis, a volunteer fire and rescue group based in Tía, provided first aid until paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) arrived at the woman's home.

She was then stabilised and transferred by ambulance to hospital for further treatment, with firefighters assisting in the evacuation.

The incident highlights the importance of community vigilance, as it was thanks to the concern of neighbours and relatives that emergency services were able to intervene in time.
