The local police in Yaiza have arrested a woman in Playa Blanca suspected of carrying out a series of thefts from shops in the popular southern resort.

The value of the stolen goods is believed to exceed €3,000, according to reports from affected businesses.

The woman was intercepted on Monday in a central street of Playa Blanca by officers, who found her in possession of several bottles of perfume. She was formally processed and brought before the courts on suspicion of committing multiple thefts.

Storeowners had already reported repeated incidents of shoplifting, and CCTV footage from several premises confirmed the suspect’s involvement. Police were alerted after she targeted a well-known retail chain located along the town’s seafront promenade.

Following the latest report and taking into account her previous suspected activity, officers launched a search and successfully located her while she was still carrying some of the stolen items.

According to police, the woman had a pattern; she would enter stores wearing a hat and, after committing the thefts, would change clothes in an attempt to avoid identification by authorities.
