Weather warnings are extended across the Canary Islands into Friday

The Canary Islands Government’s Directorate General of Emergencies has extended a series of alerts and pre-alerts as Storm Francis sweeps across the archipelago.
Authorities warn that the combination of strong winds, heavy rain, rough seas, and thunderstorm risk is likely to affect several islands throughout the day and tomorrow (Friday).
Here are the active alerts:
- Alert for coastal phenomena: Affects the north, west and southwest coast of El Hierro; north, west and south of La Palma; west and southwest of La Gomera; and north and west of the remaining islands.
- High winds are in effect: They affect the highlands and peaks of La Palma and Tenerife. A pre-alert is in place for the rest of the archipelago.
- Rain alert: It affects the eastern and western slopes of La Palma and the southern and western slopes of Tenerife. A pre-alert is in effect for the rest of the archipelago.
- Storm warning issued: Affects the entire archipelago.
