VIDEO: Cafe in Playa Blanca robbed of over €2,000 amid suspicions of inside job

Police in Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) are investigating after more than €2,000 was stolen from a cafe during an early morning break-in, with suspicions raised that the theft may have been an inside job.

The incident occurred at around 5:00am on Sunday, when a hooded individual entered the premises without any signs of forced entry. CCTV footage captured the suspect calmly moving through the shop while the alarm sounded.

The owner of the business later discovered the door left ajar and found that the cash register and tip jar had been emptied. The total amount stolen included €1,840 from two days of business, along with €180 in tips.

The day before the theft, the owner’s car had been broken into, and the keys to the shop were reportedly taken, leading to concerns that the thief may have used them to gain access.

Adding to those concerns, the cash, which had been hidden, was quickly located by the suspect, suggesting they may have had prior knowledge of the premise’s layout. The owner has reported her suspicions to the Guardia Civil, who are now investigating.

Police are reviewing the CCTV footage as part of their inquiry.
