Two Swimmers rescued in dramatic operation near Papagayo Beach

Two swimmers were rescued on Tuesday evening near the popular Papagayo beach in Lanzarote, following a tense operation involving multiple emergency services.

The incident unfolded around 5:30pm and led to a coordinated response by the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), after receiving a distress call via the 112 emergency number.

One of the men managed to reach safety on his own, while the second took shelter in a cave that was difficult to access due to the rugged coastal terrain. Firefighters successfully located and rescued the stranded swimmer, whose position had made extraction particularly challenging.

Both people suffered minor injuries and were given initial medical treatment at the scene. They were later taken to the Health Centre in Playa Blanca by ambulance for further evaluation and care.

The authorities want to remind the public that the waters around Papagayo, while scenic, can be deceptively dangerous due to strong currents and shifting sea conditions. Swimmers and visitors are urged to remain cautious and adhere to local safety guidelines to avoid such incidents.
