Tragedy as 15-month-old baby boy dies at home in south Tenerife

A 15-month-old boy died at a home in Los Abrigos this morning, Sunday 25th October, despite efforts by emergency medical teams to save him.

Guardia Civil officers are investigating the circumstances, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish why he died.

The emergency response began after relatives contacted the Canary Islands’ emergency coordination centre (CECOES), reporting that the child was unresponsive and needed urgent medical help.

An ambulance and a medical helicopter were sent to the coastal village in south Tenerife, alongside Local Police and Guardia Civil officers.

Medical teams unable to revive him

Residents heard emergency vehicle sirens shortly after 10.00am, while the helicopter circled above the area.

When medical staff reached the home, they found the boy in cardiac arrest. They attempted to resuscitate him, but were unable to save his life.

The cause of his death has not been established.

Post-mortem to establish the cause

The investigation is being handled by Guardia Civil judicial police officers in southern Tenerife. A post-mortem examination will take place at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Santa Cruz.

Although preliminary possibilities have been reported, none has been confirmed. The examination is intended to determine what happened.

The child and his family lived in Los Abrigos. Their identities have not been made public.
