Three people have been arrested in Lanzarote in connection with a brutal knife attack that left two young victims with severe injuries at a children’s playground in the island’s capital, Arrecife, on the afternoon of August 8th.
According to an official press release, the National Police have detained a woman and two men, both of whom have prior criminal records, who are facing charges of attempted murder and assault.
The police were alerted to the scene after receiving multiple calls reporting a fight involving weapons, and upon arrival, officers found two young men being treated by paramedics for serious injuries to their neck, stomach, and limbs.
Witnesses at the park gave statements and told the police that the attackers had fled the scene in a car. Based on the descriptions provided by the witnesses, multiple police patrols were activated and dispatched to the area to locate the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the victims, who were unable to provide much information, were taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. One of them needed 12 external and six internal stitches to his neck, while the other had several stitches to his right hand.
A subsequent investigation led to the identification of the getaway vehicle, resulting in the arrest of the female driver and one of the male attackers, who was her partner. The third suspect was found hiding at a friend's house and was also taken into custody.
In addition to the charges related to the attack, it was discovered that this individual was under a deportation order for illegal residency in Spain.
The police operation concluded with all three suspects being arrested for attempted murder and assault. Following the completion of the police investigation, the detainees were handed over to the judicial authorities for sentencing.
